These evil days

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:15-16

The days are long,
Yet the years pass you by;
No word, no song;
Just a breath and a sigh.
Recounting vain pleasures
And empty delights,
Regretting lost moments -
What if’s and what might.

Be careful; be so careful
Each step that you take.
Not as unwise but as wise;
Not asleep but awake.
These days are evil,
They guile and deceive -
“No cares for tomorrow!”
My life’s mine own to live.

Once you were in darkness
But now in the Lord -
Light he has made you;
Righteousness your reward.
So wake up, O sleeper
Long not for your bed
Let Christ shine upon you
Rise forth from the dead!

How do you measure darkness?

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us,
so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21

How do you measure darkness?
How do you weigh despair?
What words describe emptiness?
Which scale does pain compare?

What tears can cure blindness?
What shame we cannot bear
What sin he became for us
What love Christ came to share
